The Opportunity

Learning from Indigenous Bahamas

The Caribbean waters are sprinkled with small island nations like The Bahamas, full with the ethnic diversity imprint of Africa, Europe, Asia, and traces of the Carib and Taino Indians; the original inhabitants of this territory.

Although this area is mostly known as a tourist destination, cultural diversity is the specialty that this region excels in. Whether its nations are a melting pot, fusion of cultures, or a distinct ethnicity, this locality has positioned itself as a teacher in the complexities of racial harmony.

The culture of The Bahamas shares the uniqueness of how to combine the power of privilege with the potency of difference for a higher perspective. ABLE (American Bahamian Literary Entities, Inc.) uses a transformational concept called uJunkanooing© from The Bahamas to meet you where you are on your diversity journey.

We all have hidden biases, and we stereotype others. This concept helps you understand and see others in their true potential, so you don't have to engage in more polarization from uneasy silence.

West African mores influence this spiritual experience called uJunkanooing© from this progressive, Black, majority-ruled nation to help dismantle the ingrained negative narrative that blackness means iinferiority.

Participation in indigenous Nassau as a "Shack Experience" helps peel away the superficiality of othering. It readies hearts for the pinnacle turnaround of real change through this novel junkanooing experience that re-connects us back to our collective consciousness.

The Goal of Indigenous Nassau Educultural Mini Series

It is a mini course from the first module of the deluxe 12-series "uJunkanooing Thinking Unlimited" educultural, online course, which uses the major islands of The Bahamas and their unique teachable messages to enlighten more about diversity and the complexities of racial bias.

uJunkanooing©, as a transformational concept for liberation, draws from the seasonal, cultural celebrations of Bahamas Junkanoo, strongly embedded with West African traditions. More than a festival, Bahamas Junkanoo as a medium symbolizes needed freedom.

Need #1: uJunkanooing provides the necessary safe space to re-discover the connections to think limitlessness. It implements in-depth application of the social-economic principles of equality, inclusion, and equity, learnt from practical attempts at better race relations that is more than social conditioning or subjugation.

Need #2: When we educate ourselves through concerted effort in the way we look at the world, talking about it helps change the narrative and reduces the global uprise disseminating racism.

Need #3: Results are not guaranteed but based on individual full, individual application of the process. However, the program includes movements to loosen up fears and inhibitions that might block participant progress.

Icelyn Russell Cate, Educator, shares each of the twelve (12) major islands of The Bahamas and their ancient wisdom message about the power of difference.. Born on Mayaguana, the least traveled island of The Bahamas, she had opportunity to study as an exchange student in the United States, earning her first degree in Inter-American Studies from Elbert Covell College; a program endorsed by the late president of the United States, John F. Kennedy.

As a graduate also of Southern New Hampshire University and The Artist as an Entrepreneur Institute in Florida, she has adapted her analytical, essay-style skills into a more creative approach to foster learning that is experiential as well as theoretical. She understands the new frontier for wealth is in the creative economy, and strives to spearhead change by underscoring the importance of '‘difference'’ as the new creative content of the future.

More than sun, sand and sea...

The Bahamas is an educultural experience for transformative change.
